Cordelia S. May Still Leave Her Mark With The Colcom Foundation
When Cordelia S. May founded the Colcom Foundation in 1952, she did so with the support of her family. May was always concerned with the quality of others and she also had a giving heart. So at the tender age of 23, she put together an organization that not only respected the balance of nature, but also respected the ever-growing population.
The Colcom Foundation has focused on three areas of impact:
Carrying Capacity – There are a number of national human impact projects that the Colcom Foundation supports. Family planning helps individuals reduce the growing global birth rate via mass media and education. Immigration is a controversial topic. However, because 88 percent of the U.S. population growth is due to immigration, the foundation utilizes immigration policies to help shrink the country’s population and ecological footprint.
Local Environment – The foundation’s conservation and environmental projects help protect hundreds of precious acreage via the Hollow Oak Land Trust. The foundation also works with The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, WeConservPA, and Westmoreland Land Trust to preserve waterways, open space, and other ecological projects.
Local Community – Local projects play an integral role in improving the quality of life of community members. The foundation works hand in hand with arts and culture, community and economic development, recreation, health and human services, and public safety to provide the necessary education, relief, and support the area needs.
The Colcom Foundation has a strong belief in treating everyone with dignity and respect. The foundation also understands the nature deprivation problem and how it adversely affects million of people in the U.S.
According to Cordelia May, humans desperately need nature to thrive. Good mental, psychological, and physical health depends on it. The foundation will continue to put forth humanitarian efforts to support the continued growth of nature. Visit this page for related information.
