This global religious organization has been very vocal in championing religious freedom. It was established in 1994 by a group of Christian leaders. Their goal is to ensure that people practice and express their religious beliefs without interference from the government, institutions, or another person. They fight for the rights of people irrespective of their religious background.

Even if a person has no faith, Alliance Defending Freedom will represent them in court. ADF acknowledges that sometimes religious groups may have different viewpoints. However, this does not warrant discrimination, and people should tolerate one another.

The United States’ justice system has been changing its tune about religious freedom, and ADF has hailed this as a milestone. There are now laws that address the core Christian tenets. The government has realized that even majority religions are under threat. The United States Supreme Court has, for example, accepted ADF’s view on marriage, noting its ethical and philosophical basis.

“The Masterpiece Cakeshop Case” is a good example of why the government should not interfere with religious freedom. ADF secured a 7-2 victory at the Supreme Court after customers sued Masterpiece Cakeshop for refusing to bake a cake for them because they were gay. ADF argued that the First Amendment protected Masterpiece Cakeshop’s decision.

Alliance Defending Freedom is also active in learning institutions. Students in colleges and universities can face discrimination from the authorities when they express themselves. ADF has won more than 400 cases involving students.

Alliance Defending Freedom is against mercy killing. Jesse Ramirez was involved in a grisly road accident but miraculously survived. Were it not for ADF’s timely intervention, Ramirez would have been a victim of a mercy killing after doctors erroneously suggested that he would not survive. ADF strives to ensure the government does not infringe on parents’ rights to direct their children’s upbringing.
