Gino Pozzo’s Winning Streak

The owner of Watford Football Club, Gino Pozzo, has a reputation for turning poorly-performing clubs and turning them into excellent teams. Born of two football enthusiasts, Gianpaolo and Giuliana Pozzo, he grew up in a suitable environment to learn about the game at a young age. On his mother’s side, Gino had relations with the former Udinese Calcio Football Club presidents, and the entire family were loyal fans of the team.

Gino moved to the US at 18 and got a Masters from Harvard University. He married Catalan, relocated to Spain for a few years, and then moved to London in 2013 to actively participate in the recently acquired team. Though Gino had not been active in the family’s football team management, he later joined and turned things around. When he joined the leadership of the Udinese club in 1993, he completely changed the management technique, and the team improved within three seasons.

The same scenario happened in 2009 when Gino Pozzo was in Barcelona. He led the purchase of Granada FC, which had a debt of €12 million and couldn’t go above the third division. Within two years, the team went to Primera Liga for the first time in 35 years. This was an outstanding record for many who heard the news.

Therefore, when Gino Pozzo and the entire family bought Watford, many people were watching to see the progress. Even though the club had massive debts and poor performance, Gino took an active part in its management and changed the story. After about a year, he stated that purchasing Watford was a wise decision since most people consider the Premier League the most prestigious in the industry.

The purchase also recognized their family globally since no other owns three football clubs in England, Spain, and Italy simultaneously. Today, the Hornets continue to play in the Premier League, and Gino believes they are the future of the football game in the UK. See this page for additional information.
