Media is all around us and is a huge part of our everyday lives. Randy’s role as founder of the School of Media Arts & Communication brings knowledge to many students who want to know what it takes to be a successful media professional.

As with any business, there are often questions about how it all works, who does what and why things happen. Randy has the answers!

Randy Douthit is an enthusiastic and knowledge-based speaker on media and telecommunication. He has been a guest speaker at conferences such as the Cannes Marketing Communications Forum and the Communicators Conference.

He has been interviewed by newspapers, magazines, digital educational platforms such as MillionaireMatch, bloggers, and radio stations. He has produced podcasts for his colleagues at Ashridge Business School, including the School of Media Arts & Communication podcasts used in their classroom teaching.

He is working on a book and a model for new entrepreneurial media businesses with US entrepreneur Victor Perlman. This model is called the story engine – an open-source system to create, share and curate stories. He sees this as a way to tackle some of the major problems facing the modern media sector, such as the fragmentation of audiences, long tail economics, future revenue models and technological disruption.

Randy Douthit is also developing a new community-driven media platform called StoryMap that aims to provide a way for users to create, share and discover stories. This will include tools that integrate with social networks such as Facebook and Twitter and another web 2.0 platforms such as blogs and web TV. It’s an open-source system for the discovery of social stories.

The Innovation Link Network is a new communications platform for innovative companies that connects small businesses ” to solve complex problems by harnessing collective insight”.
