Gino Pozzo, Managing Director And Legal Owner Of Watford Football Club
Gino Pozzo is the Managing Director and Legal Owner of Watford Football Club. He is the son of Giampaolo Pozzo, Chairman of Udinese Calcio and Watford FC Club. Gino was born in 1978 in Italy but grew up in England. The Pozzo family have owned both Watford FC and Udinese Calcio since 1986 when Gino’s father purchased the club after a successful career as an accountant.
Gino Pozzo started his managerial career by managing minor Italian clubs such as Sanremese and Pistoiese before taking over at Udinese in 1992, where a start on building a very successful club (they finished third for two consecutive years) got him noticed by bigger clubs around Europe.
Gino Pozzo was then snapped up by AC Milan before being let go two years later. He then joined Juventus and became one of the club’s most important figures at the time, winning two Serie A titles and introducing players who would go on to become legends of the game including Alessandro Del Piero and Pavel Nedved, who both won a combined 7 Juve Scudettos under Gino’s guidance.
In 2005, Gino Pozzo left Juventus to return to Udinese as general manager. A year later he took over as president from Franco Soldati but kept his previous roles as general manager (since renamed as sporting director) and CEO. Also, he has been a member of the club’s board since 2002.
His success with Udinese continued and in 2009, the club became the first in Serie A to achieve 60 points without defeat. The same year he also became an important figure at Euro 2008, personally selecting and helping bring along Juventus legend Fabio Cannavaro, who went on to win the Golden Glove and be voted as one of Italy’s best players of all-time. He received many awards and accolades during his time at Udinese and Juventus and was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Bologna. See related link to learn more.
