How Colcom Foundation Fights for Our Future

Scientific evidence suggests that we are currently living in the Sixth Mass Extinction. The most alarming thing about this is that the extinction is happening at a rate that makes it hard to notice on a day-to-day basis. Recognizing this threat to human civilization and survival, the Colcom Foundation has been fighting for our future since its foundation back in 1996. These days it focuses on a variety of conservation efforts, overpopulation prevention, and health and human services. By focusing on these factors and others, Colcom hopes to avert environmental catastrophe.

Protecting the Environment

As the old saying goes, you can have a planet without an economy but you can’t have an economy without a planet. Taking this to heart, the Colcom Foundation has been working with projects in the Southwestern Pennsylvania area to conserve and protect land from industrialization and urbanization. They are also working with local projects that advocate for environmental protection laws and protecting people’s quality of life from the fossil fuel industry.

Pushing Back Against Overpopulation

Throughout history, the human population has increased exponentially. On a planet with finite resources, this is a problem. In order to help push back against overpopulation, the Colcom Foundation promotes both family planning and education to help prevent unwanted and unplanned births. Additionally, they are seeking to reduce the population of the United States in order to balance out the old-to-young population ratio. By curbing immigration levels, they seek to break the cycle that leads to an increasingly older population that vastly outnumbers the young who must care for them.

Cordelia S. May

Colcom was founded in 1996 by Cordelia S. May but its ideals are the product of her observations as a 26-year-old woman in 1952. This was when she realized that the Earth was on the road to disaster and knew that rational solutions would be needed to combat overpopulation and environmental destruction. Colcom now carries on her legacy and fights for the Earth’s future in her memory. See this article for related information.
