Ways the Colcom Foundation Continues to Fight for Environmental Concerns in PA Today

A young heiress, living in the beautiful region of southwest Pennsylvania, began to be very concerned about the health of our wonderful planet and worried that overpopulation would further cause too great of a strain on the overall environment here. In 1952, Cordelia S. May began speaking out about population control, family planning and other concerns long before most knew there were any problems. In the year 1996, Mrs. May founded the Colcom Foundation.

Today, the enterprising Colcom Foundation continues to be at the forefront of saving the environment and preservation of the cultural heritage of the people who have settled in the region. As the years pass, the foundation has branched out in its efforts to help slow the detrimental impact that many massive industrial businesses were having on the forests, waterways and other land-related areas. These once lushly forested regions would be forever changed by massive pollution that seeped into the soil and water sources wherever these industries were located.

Colcom Foundation supports several special programs, including the Conservation Catalyst Fund, which grants conservation organizations working to protect threatened species and habitats. By offering financial support and resources, this foundation allows these groups to make significant strides in conservation efforts.

As a result, the members that make up the Colcom Foundation have and continue to support efforts to reverse the negative impacts on these lands through various avenues. These avenues include political efforts to pass stricter environmental waste regulations and laws, assistance for various family planning programs, public educational efforts to spread awareness of these issues and many other areas related to these causes.

Although Mrs. May passed from this world in 2005, her Colcom Foundation was funded and continues her work and expands upon it in today’s modern times. Part of the goals of this organization is to help ensure that later children and grandchildren are still able to enjoy the beauty of the wilderness lands and stay healthy with clean water access for every community here. The group also funds and provides volunteers for tree planting, water conservation and other environmental efforts. See this page for related information.
